General Information
The foreign language lab is open to all currently enrolled FCCJ foreign language students for the purpose of completing the lab portion of their foreign language course. Students should sign-in upon entering and sign-out upon exiting the lab. The lab has 26 computers available to students and faculty. Users must sign-on to computers using their FCCJ Artemis user-id and password prior to accessing any programs.
Tutors in the lab are available to assist students who are actively attending an FCCJ foreign language course Tutors help students with lab assignments during hours that the Learning Center is open. Students may attend the lab on a walk-in basis. Upon entering, students are asked to print their name on a sign-in sheet.
To receive credit for any lab hour(s), students must be present within the foreign language lab or adjacent area and be studying their foreign language. If a student doesn't sign in or out, the visit will not be counted.
All students are encouraged to practice aloud with the VISTAS recordings, the CAN-8 exercises, supplementary materials, and with fellow students. However, since several activities may be occurring at once, students are asked to maintain a voice level that is conducive to individual study.
There is a TV/VCR available to students and videotapes are on reserve in the language lab and Library.
Important Lab Rules: Food and drink must be kept out of the lab. Please do not consume food or beverages in the foreign language lab. Please do not use cellular phones in the Lab.
VISTAS Information
VISTAS (a.k.a. EN LINEA and Web-SAM) is an on-line foreign language tutorial program used by foreign language instructors to provide students with homework and practice lessons. Usernames and passwords provided by course instructors are necessary to access the program. The VISTAS program is used in conjunction with the VISTAS textbook.
CAN-8 Information
CAN-8 is a software program for viewing foreign language lessons. The program allows foreign language instructors to track individual student progress. Access to this program is normally provided by the instructor. Typically students sign-in to CAN-8 by using their Artemis username. The password is the campus (North, South, Kent, etc.) where the student is taking the course.
Important: If you sign in as a guest, your exercises can not be tracked by your instructor. You must sign in and out!
