Eight-Week Accelerated Legal Secretary Course "Law Office Skills!" (CWK 0020)

Who Should Attend
Legal office support staff who wish to increase their skills and knowledge of the law office, legal secretaries for refresher training or persons entering the legal job market.

About the Program
In this popular 45-hour online program, you will learn the skills necessary to work in the fast-paced, legal environment. You will receive thorough training in essential professional skills, business procedures and communications. This program provides students with the opportunity to use the latest technology to manage information flow, to recognize how information is used for decision-making and to use business applications software to manipulate and integrate information. The program offers:

  • sessions presented by legal experts,
  • cost-effective, timely and flexible training solutions,
  • fast track program in online and classroom format,
  • continuing Education Units and Certificate of successful completion and
  • certification of word processing and typing skills

This program will teach you how to prepare legal documents such as summonses, complaints, motions, responses and subpoenas for attorneys and their clients. It will also cover traditional secretarial duties such as setting up appointments, billing clients, managing client and office files, word processing, telephone etiquette and making travel arrangements for their employers. Students will also review legal journals and assist in other ways with legal research, such as verifying quotes and citations in legal briefs.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, demand for people in the legal field is expected to grow 62% between now and the year 2008. The need for qualified legal secretaries increases daily.
