Self-Assessments

Gathering Information about oneself as it related to the world of work is generally referred to as performing a self-assessment. The CDC offers several "formal" paper-pencil instruments and inventories to assist you in the self-assessment portion of the career planning process.

Self-Directed Search (SDS)
The SDS is the most widely used career "test" in the world. It is based on the work of Dr. John Holland. By determining your "Holland Code", you can determine occupations likely to suit you.

Assessments on the Internet
There are several "career assessments" available on the Internet. For your convenience, we have compiled some of these sites for you. Be advised that while these instruments may be accurate, validity and reliability measures may not have been established for them.

Visit the Internet resources link on the CDC homepage or a few of the links listed below if you'd like to try one.
