South Campus and Deerwood Center Mission

The South Campus and the Deerwood Center are committed to and guided by the mission and values adopted by Florida Community College. Guided by the broader mission, the South Campus and Deerwood mission is to contribute to Florida Community College’s five College-wide goals by:

  • Helping all students who come to us to achieve their goals, and to become economically self-sufficient, lifelong learners and active participants in the life of our community;

  • Contributing to the economic well-being of our community by meeting the needs of area employers for a skilled workforce, and by preparing students to succeed in the workforce;

  • Enhancing the quality of life in our community by offering educational, artistic, cultural and intellectual experiences reflecting the rich diversity of the world community.


South Campus and Deerwood Center Goals

South Campus and the Deerwood Center will strive for continuous improvement in realizing the following goals, linked to the five College-wide goals (CWG).

  1. Provide excellent delivery of university parallel curricula leading to the associate in arts degree, preparing students for successful transfer to and performance in upper division institutions. (CWG 1)

  2. Provide excellent delivery of curricula to prepare students for employment and to meet the needs of area employers, including associate in science and associate in applied science degrees, certificates, and training. (CWG 1, 4)

  3. Provide excellent college preparatory instruction to prepare high school graduates for success in college level programs of study, and excellent pre-college instruction to enable adults to reach their highest level of academic achievement. (CWG, 2)

  4. Provide excellent student services and academic support services to help students meet the highest goals of which they are capable. (CWG 1, 2, 3)

  5. Provide and maintain state-of-the-art technology to support excellent instruction and services, and provide ongoing training for students, faculty and staff in the uses of current technology. (CWG 1)

  6. Promote campus offerings widely in our service area, and provide a flexible schedule of offerings and a variety of delivery modalities to promote the greatest access for the citizens we serve. (CWG 2, 3)

  7. Provide a vibrant campus life for students, faculty and staff, including intellectual, cultural, artistic, athletic and student development activities reflecting the rich diversity of the world community. (CWG 1, 2)

  8. Develop and maintain safe, secure, high quality facilities to support excellence in instruction and student services, and to meet the needs of all students. (CWG 2, 3)

  9. Create a supportive, collegial atmosphere for faculty and staff to encourage diversity, to promote creativity and innovation, to promote professional development, and to enhance employment satisfaction. (CWG 1, 3, 5)

  10. Serve as an educational, intellectual, cultural and facilities resource to the diverse communities we serve, with special emphasis on promoting the fine and performing arts and athletics. (CWG 2, 3, 4)

  11. Ensure the efficient, effective, responsible and accountable use of public resources, and use planning and evaluation methods drawing on departmental expertise to promote continuous improvement. (CWG 5)
