Associate in Science
The two-year program in financial services (financial planning associate)
is structured to provide students with both general and specialized skills
and competencies needed to embark upon a profitable and rewarding career
in financial services. One of the fastest growing industries in the United
States is financial planning. Opportunities in financial services are
especially good, as Jacksonville is a hub of financial activity. Financial
institutions such as banks, insurance companies, credit unions, brokerage
houses, investment advisors and financial planners are looking for qualified
and motivated degree students to enter their training programs.
The program is designed to serve students who are interested in the financial
services industry. The financial planning associate program provides students
with a background that will assist in preparation for a career in financial
services with an emphasis in personal financial planning. The classroom
experiences provide a broad understanding of the financial planning associate.
The program manager, with the approval of the instructional dean, may
require additional courses or make substitutions required to meet the
need of students.
NOTE: The associate in science degree program is intended primarily for
students who desire to complete an associate’s degree and become
employed. Students who desire to pursue a university transfer study must
meet certain course and test requirements. For details refer to university
transfer requirements.
Required Courses
The following is a list of courses required for this program presented
in a recommended sequence of completion. The sequence is only a suggested
guide, and there is no requirement to follow the sequence precisely. Students
in this program may register for any course as long as the student has
met any prerequisites for that course. Where a “professional elective”
is indicated in the course sequence, students may choose any course from
the group of professional electives that follows the full course sequence.
