Mary Andrew

Coach Andrew will begin her 19th season at FCCJ this fall. In 1989 she was asked by the FCCJ Athletic Director to restart the volleyball program and after just a few years of diligent work brought the program to a level of national recognition. The past ten seasons have seen the FCCJ volleyball program consistently ranked in the National Top Twenty and several of the last eight seasons in the National Top Ten. Coach Andrew has posted over 438 career wins and a winning percentage of .680 while at FCCJ. Teams have also averaged of over 21 wins per season. The FCCJ team has won 14 Conference Championships in a row and qualified for the Regional Tournament every year. For this tradition of excellence she was selected as the American Volleyball Coaches Association “Region Coach of the Year” in 2002.
Coach Andrew has thirty years of work experience in the fields of education, coaching, athletic administration, commercial recreation and professional sports. This range of experience began with junior high/senior high school teaching and coaching and over the years extended into the fields of high school athletic director and professional football staff administration. Her college experience included three years as an All-State volleyball and softball player at Stetson University from which she graduated Cum Laude in 1975. She then began her teaching and coaching career the year after as a head volleyball coach and assistant basketball coach in the Duval County School System. In 1976 she was an assistant coach on the staff at Fletcher High School when the team won the first Girls State Basketball Championship in Florida. While coaching volleyball at The Bolles School, Coach Andrew twice led her team to the Florida State High School Final Four.
Coach Andrew has served on the Florida Regional Board of the United States Volleyball Association, is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and has served as the state volleyball chairperson for both the Florida Community Colleges and the Mid-Florida Conference. Coach Andrew has been an invited speaker at the American Volleyball Coaches National Convention and Final Four and the Florida High School State Coaches Convention. In the spring of 2006 Coach Andrew was inducted into the Florida Association of Community Colleges “Hall of Fame” for her service to the community colleges in Florida. In 2004 she was inducted into the USAV Florida Region “Hall of Fame” for service to the girls youth division of volleyball in Florida.
Coach Andrew is also a founder of the Jacksonville Junior Volleyball Association and has served as its director for the last eighteen years. More than 150 girls a year play in this program and in 18 years more than 70 players have received scholarship aid to college after training and playing with the “JJVA”. Coach Andrew also hosts several highly successful summer camps at FCCJ each year serving youth players from the ages of 5-18.
