Ernie Friend
Director of Academic Systems, Advanced Technology Center

Ernie is the Director of Academic Systems at the Advanced Technology Center. His past positions at the college include Director of Telecommunications and Networks, Network Systems Specialist and Integrated Systems Specialist. Prior to working at FCCJ, he spent 10 years in the United States Navy.

Ernie has worked with faculty in creating several new programs and certificates in areas relating to IP Telephony, Computer Forensics, Data Security, GIS and Manufacturing. He was instrumental in increasing overall enrollment in Biomedical Equipment Repair, Manufacturing and Computer programs. In partnership with other organizations, Ernie applied for and received grant funding for four out of six grants totaling approximately $1 million. In addition, he helped establish a new gender initiative Girls Get I.T. bringing mentors together with local middle and high schools.

Ernie graduated from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois, with a B.S. degree in Electronics Management.
