Florida Community College Downtown Campus to receive national campus programming award for providing free clothing to students
A collaborative effort by Dignity U Wear, the Jacksonville-based non-profit that provides new clothes to the needy, and Florida Community College’s Downtown Campus has resulted in more than 600 students and parents receiving new clothes, and a national award for the campus’ efforts.
The Association for the Programming of Campus Activities is presenting their “Programming Event of the Year Award” to the campus for their efforts with Dignity-U-Wear to provide two clothing giveaways for struggling students. The award will be presented to Downtown Campus Student Life and Leadership Coordinator Clashous Witherspoon at the APCA national conference in Atlanta March 15.
As part of their course requirements, Florida Community College students gain hands-on service learning experience, providing assistance to the needs of the community. The giveaways yielded 50 volunteer students a combined 75 qualifying service learning hours.
APCA has a membership of more than 750 schools.
