Seventh Annual Family Literacy Fair Sept. 19 at Florida State College at Jacksonville North Campus
Encouraging the love and joy of reading with free activities, books and lunch
Florida State College at Jacksonville is presenting its Seventh Annual Family Literacy Fair for residents of Duval and Nassau counties at the College’s North Campus, 4501 Capper Road in Jacksonville (I-95 to Dunn Ave. or I-295 to Dunn Ave.). The Fair is scheduled for Sept. 19, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. It is free and open to the public, including a free lunch. Attendance last year was estimated at more than 500.
“We want reading to be a part of every family’s life, every day,” said Dr. Barbara Darby, North Campus president. “The joys and benefits of reading, and especially reading with and to children, contribute to the individual, the family and the community. Our Family Literacy Fair is for everyone in Duval and Nassau counties to enjoy. The focus is on literacy, with free books and a wide variety of fun and free activities. We even provide free lunch so people can come and stay into the afternoon.“”
The Student Government Association will be selling affordable drinks and snacks.

MEDIA NOTE: Activity stations cover everything from the arts to sports and from magic to health care. There will be workshops in acting, reading and nail polishing for teens; pretend tattoos and face painting for little ones; a golf clinic and batting instruction; appearances by storybook characters, authors of the Douglas the Duck fire safety advocate books, Northside Storytellers’ League, Mr. Wizard, an illusionist and Jaxson deVille. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Division will have equipment on display. The Jacksonville Public Library will be providing library cards and attendees can receive a reading assessment.
