Florida Community College plans International Fest at Downtown Campus

The Downtown Campus of Florida Community College takes on an international flavor during International Education Week, November 17-20. A colorful Chinese Lion Dance Parade will begin the celebration on November 17 at 11:30 a.m.

Students and community members are invited to enjoy a wide variety of visual, cultural and performing arts in a festival celebrating cultural heritage and diversity. The festival includes international films, music, dancing, poetry readings, ethnic food from around the world and a coffee cafe in the Downtown Campus courtyard. Students plan to wear native dress throughout the week. The International Student Displays and Portrait Project will be on exhibit in the lobby. The cafeteria will feature classic ethnic dishes throughout the week.

On Monday, the internationally acclaimed PBS documentary, “Time for School,” will showcase innovative educational programs from Japan, India, Benin, Brazil, Bangladesh and other countries around the world. On Tuesday, students may enjoy poetry readings, dancing and an international coffee cafe in the courtyard; international fashion show hosted by John Paul and Treisha with music by Dj Paco and Dj Papo. Latino heritage will be celebrated on Wednesday with the touring exhibit “(Piensa Grande!) Think Big!” from the Latino Heritage, heritage lectures and CASS dancing.

The International Festival continues on Thursday with the acclaimed art-house costume drama, “The Red Violin.” The film traces the history of a legendary instrument across five continents as it affects the lives of generations of people over three centuries. It begins at 10 a.m.
