The Florida Community College Chorale
has been invited to perform for about 1,500 attendees at
the American Choral Director’s Association Southern
Division Convention in Nashville Feb. 25-28. The Florida
Community College Chorale is among 18 chosen out of 90
groups that auditioned and is the only community college
choral group invited to perform. The invitation stemmed
from an appearance of the Men’s Chamber Chorus last
fall at Seminole Community College. All of the College
choral groups will perform at the free concert.
An interesting
sidebar: At a fast-food restaurant on the way home
from Seminole, some of the group were offered the opportunity
to appear in a Krystal Burger commercial being filmed there.
When the director of the commercial discovered they were
part of a choral group, he quickly auditioned them and
then reworked one of their songs, a sea-shanty known as
“What Do You Do with a Drunken Sailor” into
a jingle for the commercial. It currently airs regionally
and displays the singers’ talents dramatically, albeit
briefly.
