
Florida Community College Continuing Education is offering several courses this summer that encourage creativity and personal expression.
Photography Basics introduces students to basic camera operations including shutter speeds, lenses, filters and lighting. Fine art, nature, photojournalism, portraiture, commercial and event photography will be explored. A manual SLR 35mm camera is required. Class meets at the FCCJ Deerwood Center located at 9911 Old Baymeadows Rd. on Saturdays, May 15 – July 17, from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $59.
Folk Guitar for Beginners teaches students how to play a variety of simple chords that can be used in folk, contemporary and country music. Topics include: chord fingering techniques; strumming patterns; instrument tuning and maintenance; music notation; capo applications; and finger picking styles. Student must have an acoustic guitar. The class meets on Mondays, Jan. 26 – March 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the FCCJ Deerwood Center. Tuition is $49.
Basic Still Life Drawing meets on Wednesdays, Jan. 28 – Feb. 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the FCCJ Urban Resource Center, located at 601 W. State Street. In this hands-on class, students learn how to create braids, cornrows, knots, twists and weaves using tried-and-true techniques and natural hare care products. Cost is $39.
