The Board of Governors of the Florida Community
College at Jacksonville Foundation elected Betty P. Cook to
serve on the Board at their May 20 meeting.
Cook, a Nassau County native and long-time supporter and benefactor
of the College, was elected to serve a three-year term.
Cook’s relationship with Florida
Community College at Jacksonville began when she was appointed
to the District Board of Trustees by Governor Bob Graham
in 1979. She became the first woman elected to chair the
Board and the first Nassau County trustee to become chair.
In all, she served 14 years on the District Board of Trustees.
Her donations to the College include
generous support of student scholarships, as well as the
original 43 acres on which the Florida Community College
Betty P. Cook Nassau Center sits in Yulee. The multi-phase
center is designed to expand as Nassau County’s needs
increase.
“Betty P. Cook’s commitment to
Florida Community College and to education in general is well-known,
and a blessing to all of Northeast Florida. We are delighted,
and indeed fortunate, to have Betty Cook as a member of our
Foundation Board of Governors,” said
Dr. William C. Mason, executive director of the Florida Community
College Foundation.
