
Bethel Baptist Institutional Church and Florida Community College offer another chance to succeed with summer high school classes for third year
For the third consecutive year, Bethel Baptist Institutional
Church is partnering with Florida Community College to offer
summer school to high school students. Six hundred spaces are
available for students needing another opportunity to obtain
passing grades in order to graduate or advance to the next
grade level.
Summer classes will run for six weeks, June 6-July 17. Registration
will be held May 31-June 2 at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church,
123 Bethel Baptist Street. Registration is from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
There is a registration fee of $175. Registrants must have with
them their report card, Social Security card and a waiver from
their school.
Specialized lab courses are available
at Bethel Baptist and at the College’s Downtown Campus.
Student attainment of competencies will be verified by testing
and/or portfolio assessments.
The following courses are available:
Algebra I and II; Geometry; English I, II, III and IV; Biology;
Chemistry; Earth Science, Space Science and Physical Science;
American and World History and American Government. FCAT
Reading Endorsement is offered at an additional cost of $50.
FCAT Enhancement is also available for 12th graders who failed
the FCAT but have completed all other graduation requirements.
Students will also participate in weekly motivational and study
skills activities, including presentations by guest life-skills
speakers.
This is the third year Bethel Baptist
and Florida Community College have sponsored this program since
the discontinuation of Duval Public Schools’ summer school
program.
