Florida Community College offers “The Duck Variations” and “Seven Menus”

Student-directed productions of plays by two famous playwrights — Mamet and Ives

Florida Community College is presenting two student-directed one-act plays on July 22 and July 23 at 8 p.m. at the Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts Studio Theatre on South Campus.

“The Duck Variations” by David Mamet is directed by Thomas Trauger. The play is a dialog between two grandfatherly gentlemen on a Chicago park bench. “Seven Menus” by David Ives is directed by Ashley Olberding. The play’s setting is a restaurant table that seats a progression of friends, a couple at a time, and explores their relationships as menu courses and meals change.

Trauger and Olberding are also producing their pieces, including play selection, auditions and casting. The Wilson Center provides labor and space for the rehearsals and performances. Sets and properties come from existing stock. The student directors have professors Ken McCulough and Johnny Pettegrew as directing and technical consultants, and Wilson Center Operations Manager Beth Harvey serves as the business and marketing consultant.

Admission is a suggested donation of $5, the proceeds of which go to the Wilson Center scholarship fund. The Wilson Center is located at the College’s South Campus, 11901 Beach Blvd. For more information, call 904.646.2222.

Please be advised this production contains strong language and content, and is not suitable for younger audiences.
