Patient Safety: Let's put it into Practice!
Florida Community College's Annual Excellence in
Nursing Conference May 5
The Florida Community College at Jacksonville Department of Nursing will host the Third Annual
Excellence in Nursing Conference on May 5, 2006. Keynote Speaker will be Peter B. Angood, M.D., vice president for
JCAHO, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Angood is also chief patient safety officer
for the Joint Commission International Center for Patient Safety, a new initiative co-sponsored by JCAHO and Joint
Commission Resources. For a decade, JCAHO has led an intense effort to improve patient safety. The creation of the
International Center for Patient Safety enhances that commitment.
A product of the University of Manitoba in Canada, Angood also trained at McGill University in Montreal
and the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. He practiced surgery with hospitals of McGill University, then was
recruited by the University of Pennsylvania. He has held surgery faculty and hospital administrative positions at Yale
University and at Washington University in St. Louis. He is currently a Professor of Surgery, Anesthesia, and Emergency
Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
