
Florida Community College offering “Personal Finance Institute
for Teens”
The Institute for Financial Studies at
Florida Community College is offering a week-long course for
teenagers that will prepare them to make financial decisions,
including how to save and invest their money. The course runs
June 6-10, from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the College’s Urban
Resource Center and costs $100. Students must provide their own
lunches. Registration must be completed by May 24 at 3 p.m.
The program is designed to teach teens the benefits of making
smart money decisions, as well as introduce them to career options
in the financial services industry. Hands-on exercises and guest
speakers from the local financial community will teach important
principles of personal financial responsibility, including how
to develop and maintain a budget, how to use credit responsibly,
the importance of saving and investing, financial goal setting,
the importance of long-term investing, the characteristics of
stocks, bonds, mutual funds and how to open savings, checking
and investment accounts.
