Bethel Baptist Institutional Church Summer Intervention program draws to a close with student
recognition ceremony July 13
Hundreds of students participated in the Bethel Baptist Institutional Church summer school for six
weeks, June 5-July 14. Now the students have an opportunity for their accomplishments to be recognized in a ceremony at
the churchs Main Sanctuary at 10:30 a.m. on June 13.
Students came from all over Jacksonville, with one student even coming from Georgia. The gamut of
local schools was represented by students from Paxon and Stanton College Prep as well as Ribault and Raines, about two
dozen schools total. Several private schools also had students attend.
Volunteer tutors joined state-certified teachers and special guest speakers in guiding students
through the 26 courses that were offered during the course of the summer. One volunteer was a student two years ago and
returned because he felt the experience so valuable and worthwhile. A current student has already written to the school
to express what a positive experience their summer program was.
Officials from the Bethel Baptist, Duval County Schools and Florida Community College, including
Pastor Rudolph McKissick Sr., Pastor Rudolph McKissick Jr., Ed Pratt-Dannals, Wyman Winbush and Downtown Campus President
Edythe Abdullah will address the students.
