Three new appointments and one reappointment to Florida Community College at Jacksonville District Board of Trustees
Governor Charlie Crist announced in July three new appointees and one reappointment to the District Board of Trustees of Florida Community College at Jacksonville. Newly appointed to the Board are retired Rear Admiral Kevin F. Delaney of Jacksonville; James E. McCollum of Fernandina Beach; and Gwendolyn C. Yates of Jacksonville. Reappointed for another term is Thomas “Mac” McGehee of Jacksonville.
Kevin Delaney is president and chief executive officer of Delaney and Associates Consulting. Residing in Jacksonville since 1987, Delaney served with the United States Navy from 1964-1998, and as commanding officer of Naval Air Station Jacksonville 1989-1991. He also served as the Navy’s regional commander while rear admiral, holding responsibility for 14 major naval installations and four naval hospitals. He has served as president or chair of many organizations. He presently serves with the Rotary Club of Jacksonville, the Salvation Army of Jacksonville, the Northeast Florida Safety Council, the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce and the FCCJ Foundation Board of Directors. He also serves on the Cathedral Arts Project Board of Directors and as chair of the Ronald McDonald House Advisory Board. Delaney holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the U. S. Naval Academy and Master of Science in Business Administration from George Washington University. His term expires in 2011.
James E. “Jim” McCollum is owner of McCollum Enterprises Consulting and is retired from BellSouth with 34 years of service. He served in the United States Army and in the U. S. Army Reserve. He has chaired the University of North Florida School of Business Advisory Committee, the Jacksonville regional Chamber of Commerce, the Northeast Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the American Red Cross of Northeast Florida and the WJCT Public Television Board of Trustees. He has served on the Jacksonville Sports and Entertainment Board, the Jacksonville Economic Development Committee Tourism Taskforce and the Scripps Florida Funding Corporation. He also serves on the Jacksonville Aviation Authority. McCollum attended Miami-Dade Junior College and graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising and Public Relations. He achieved his Masters in Business Administration degree from the University of West Florida. His term expires in 2011.
Gwendolyn “Gwen” Yates has made a lifelong career of public service. She has been a City of Jacksonville employee since 1974, as founder and director (until 1980) of what is now the Youth Crisis Center. She subsequently served in high-level management positions including Division Chief and Interim Director (by appointment) under three Jacksonville mayors. Yates served as president of the Florida Council on Aging Board of Trustees. She was an elected member of the Jacksonville City Council (elected 1999; reelected 2003) until her term expired June 30. As City Council member Yates chaired committees on Public Health and Safety and Education; served as Finance chair for the Tourist and Development Council; and was vice chair of both Rules and the Recreation Community Development & Education committees. Yates is a graduate of Edward Waters College and completed the University of North Florida Government Fellows Program and Jacksonville University’s Management Development Certificate Program. Her term on the FCCJ Board of Trustees expires in 2009.
Thomas R. “Mac” McGehee Jr. was originally appointed to the Board by Governor Bush in 1999 and is reappointed by Governor Crist for a term that expires in 2011. He was also reelected to serve again as vice chair for Duval County. McGehee is executive vice president of Mac Papers, Inc., a family-owned paper distribution company. He presently serves as secretary of the St. Vincent's Hospital Foundation Board. He has previously held posts as director of the Printing Association of Florida; chair of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee and president of the Navy League of Jacksonville. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from the University of Florida.
The Board’s five other trustees are N. Wyman Winbush II, (chair); Emily B. Smith, and Michael B. Weinstein serving Duval County; and Linda H. Asay and Suanne Z. Thamm (vice chair) serving Nassau County.
