Winbush elected chair of Florida Community College District Board of Trustees
Thamm, McGehee to serve as vice-chairs for Nassau, Duval counties

The Florida Community College District Board of Trustees unanimously elected members N. Wyman Winbush II, Suanne Z. Thamm and Thomas R. McGehee, Jr. to serve as their officers at the first meeting of 2007-2008, held on August 7.

Elected to chair the Board for a second consecutive term is N. Wyman Winbush II. He has served on the Board of Trustees since 1999. Winbush is a sales manager for IBM and serves as Captain in the Naval Reserves at NAS Jacksonville. He received a B.S. degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and his M.B.A. degree from Jacksonville University. In addition to his experience on the College’s Board of Trustees, Winbush previously served six years as a member of the Florida Community College Foundation. He is a graduate of Leadership Jacksonville and has served in numerous community volunteer roles including that of a featured facilitator for Volunteer Jacksonville’s Blueprint for Leadership program.

Suanne Z. Thamm was elected to serve as vice-chair for Nassau County. She has served as the College’s Board Chair from 2003-2005 and was the Board’s Vice Chair for Nassau County for three previous terms. On scholarship to Syracuse University she earned an A.B. degree in Soviet/East European Area Studies with a minor in the Russian language; she later attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

Before retiring, Thamm worked for the Library of Congress for 25 years in various capacities, including research, public service, collections management, and technical processing. She currently serves on the Historic District Council for the City of Fernandina Beach. After having served as secretary of the Board of the Amelia Island Museum of History, she now co-chairs the Veterans’ History Project of the Museum, a partnering institution with the Library of Congress.

Thomas R. “Mac” McGehee, Jr. was elected to serve again as vice-chair for Duval County. McGehee was appointed to the Board by Governor Bush in 1999 and reappointed by Governor Crist in July. He is executive vice president of Mac Papers, Inc., a family-owned paper distribution company. He received his B.A. degree in business management from the University of Florida. McGehee presently serves as secretary of the St. Vincent's Hospital Foundation Board. He previously held posts as director of the Printing Association of Florida; chair of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee and president of the Navy League of Jacksonville.

The Board’s six other trustees are Kevin F. Delaney, Emily B. Smith, Michael B. Weinstein and Gwendolyn “Gwen” Yates serving Duval County; and Linda H. Asay and James E. “Jim” McCollum serving Nassau County.
