FCCJ events recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Lecture, dialog, display and dramatic presentation to enlighten public

Kent Campus:

Oct. 15-19, Display: Silent Witness Campaign and the Heart-to-Heart Project. Silent Witness silhouettes tell the story of each Jacksonville citizen who died as a result of domestic homicide since 2002. The Heart-to-Heart project enlists students and the public to put into words on paper hearts their ownership of violence and their solutions to alleviate it. 3939 Roosevelt Blvd., Student Lounge, Bldg. G, open Mon.-Thu. 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Fri. 8 a.m.–3 p.m. Free. For more information, call 904.381.3584.

Downtown Campus:

Oct. 16, Karate demonstration: Master Hightower from Hightower Power Karate Academy will lead a brief yet informative demonstration on self defense. The Kotona Experience self defense demonstration will highlight easy, yet effective methods for defending one’s self against an attacker. Free. Student Café, 11 a.m.

Oct. 22, Discussion: Professor Marianna Rader will lead an interactive discussion on the psychological aspects of Domestic Violence. Students are challenged to look at and analyze how communities are affected by this societal plague. Free. A-1018, 9 a.m.

Oct. 30, Lecture: Professor Marianna Rader will host a representative from the Hubbard House of Jacksonville to speak on the emotional and psychological effects of Domestic Violence and how it affects family structure. Oct. 25-28, FCCJ DramaWorks presents “Unspoken for Time,” drama about sexual abuse and healing. Not recommended for those under age 12 due to subject matter.
