What is First Coast Tech Prep?

  • A partnership between Duval and Nassau County schools and Florida Community College at Jacksonville.
  • Offers students the opportunity to explore various technical career fields and earn free college credit (dual enrollment) while in high school.
  • Creates educational career pathway guides that start as early as 9th grade and combine academic courses needed for success in college and technical courses to prepare students for a career.
  • Cultivates educational and business partnerships to enhance career and technical student enrollment, completion rates, academic excellence and workforce success.

What are Tech Prep Career Pathway Guides?

  • An outline of sequential courses emphasizing the development of a career-focused educational plan that leads to Associate in Science (A.S.) and Associate in Applied Science Degrees (A.A.S.), technical certificates, and workforce credit certificates.

How can students earn free college credit?

  • Dual Enrollment allows high school juniors and seniors to take college courses and receive both high school and college credit.
  • Minimum requirements vary by school district and program of study.

Who should be in Tech Prep?

  • Students who are planning to attend a four-year university (Tech Prep provides a solid academic foundation and most programs lead to a Bachelor’s degree)
  • Students who are planning to attend a two-year community college (college credits earned in high school count towards A.S. and A.A.S. degrees or technical and workforce certificates)
  • Students who want to explore various career options (undecided students can determine areas of interest and build a solid academic foundation)
