Student Reinstatement Process

Reinstatement for Stop Out/Return Same Semester

In the case where a student stops out of class, and returns the same semester, the reinstatement process is as follows:

  • The student requests readmission via advisor, faculty member or an adult education staff member.
  • The request is forwarded to Debra Foust in Student Records. Note: The request must include the student’s name, social security number and the reference number for the class in which the student wishes to enroll or re-enroll.
  • Student Records retrieves the student’s academic history to make the appropriate changes to the withdraw record.
    • Checks the withdraw record for SW or IW.
    • The withdraw grade is removed if the student is added to a different section of the class.
    • The course is removed so the student can re-register and the faculty member can input a final grade.
  • The student can visit the campus Enrollment Services office and re-register for the class.

Reinstatement for Stop Out/Return Different Semester

In the case where a student stops out of class, and returns in a different semester, the reinstatement process is as follows:

  • The student follows normal registration procedures.
  • If the student has not attended for a year or more, the student must complete the resubmission application which can be obtained and submitted at any campus Enrollment Services office. The purpose of the resubmission application is to update the student’s record.
  • The student must contact the campus Assessment Center to retake the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).
  • Then student can visit the campus Enrollment Services office and re-register for the class.

Reinstatement for Conduct Issues

Any student who has been suspended, expelled or asked to leave the college due to an infraction of behavior, may not be reinstated without permission from the Dean of Student Success from the campus the student attended.

  • The reinstatement process is as follows:
    • Upon the reported misconduct incident, the student is told to contact the Student Success office to obtain permission to re-enter the college.
    • The Dean of Student Success receives the incident report from security.
    • Depending on the severity of the incident, a hearing committee is formed, or the student would meet with the Dean of Student Success. Representatives of a hearing committee may consist of the Dean of Student Success, Advisor, Faculty and a student government member.
    • The Dean of Student Success notifies the student when to appear by mail.
    • After the meeting, the Dean of Student Success drafts a recommendation letter to be signed by Dr. Wallace. The purpose of the recommendation letter is to indicate whether or not the student can re-enter the college.
    • The Dean of Student Success forwards the recommendation letter to the student by mail.
  • If the outcome is favorable, and the student can return to class, Debra Foust from Student Records retrieves the student’s academic history to make the appropriate changes to the withdraw record.
    • Check the withdraw record for SW or IW.
    • The withdraw grade is removed if the student is added to a different section of the class.
    • The course is removed so that the student can re-register and the faculty member can input a final grade.
  • The student can then visit the campus Enrollment Services office and re-register for the class.
