Computer Engineering Technology (Computer Technician)

The Computer Technician subspecialty of the Computer Engineering Technology degree program emphasizes PC installation, configuration and troubleshooting both hardware and software. Core classes are in computer repair, operating systems and basic networking. The program also emphasizes ands-on instruction with industry-standard equipment. The Computer Technician subspecialty will prepare you for A+, Network+ and various Microsoft certification exams.

There are two options within this program:

• Computer Engineering Technology (Computer Technician) A.A.S. Degree
• Microcomputer Repairer/Installer Technical Certificate

Students may choose to pursue an A.A.S. degree and earn technical certificates while completing the requirements for the degree, or pursue one or more certificate programs to develop or upgrade their skills in a particular field. Contact an advisor or counselor to determine the career education path that is best for you.

Students may complete a degree in only one of the two specialty tracks, CCNP or Computer Technician. Students who wish to add a second area of specialization after completing a degree should pursue a technical certificate in that area.

Students who have completed the Computer Electronics Technology or the Network Support Services certificate programs may apply to have their coursework evaluated for college credit and applied to these programs.

Microcomputer Repair/Installer (6274)

Technical Certificate

Learn the basics of installing, configuring, repairing, and maintaining microcomputer and network hardware and software in this excellent hands–on program. You will have the skills and knowledge needed to take the CompTIA certification exams in A+ and Network+, which will be impressive additions on your resume. Students completing this program may transfer their coursework into the Computer Engineering Technology (Computer Technician) A.A.S. degree program and gain higher level computer technician and networking skills.

Salaries are usually around $37,000.

Certification and Licensing

Students who successfully complete this program will be prepared to take CompTIA certification exams in A+ and Network+, certifications that are highly valued by employers.

Articulations

Students completing this program may transfer their coursework into the Computer Engineering Technology A.A.S. degree program and gain higher level computer technician and networking skills.
