Transfer Student Tips
Make sure that you
are classified as a degree-seeking student if this is your
intention. Otherwise, your transcripts will not be evaluated.
Have an official transcript sent from
each institution you have previously attended. They should
be sent to: Student Records Office, Florida Community College
at Jacksonville, 940 N. Main St., Jacksonville, FL 32202. If
these transcripts are not received within one term, your registration
for subsequent terms will be blocked. Once your transcripts have
been evaluated (this may take 4-6 weeks after they are officially
received), you will receive notice of this by mail.
SPECIAL NOTE: If you have applied for financial aid, all your
transcripts must be received and evaluated before any money can
be released to you.
Complete an Admissions Placement Survey
(APS) (in room U-169) to establish your testing record
and to document previous course work in English, reading and mathematics.
Obtain academic advising. You
will not be allowed to register for classes until you have been
advised. Call 904.646.2424 for an appointment. You must bring
along a copy of your transcript (or other written documentation
such as grade reports) if you wish to register for courses that
have prerequisites. This advising will be unofficial if your transcript
has not been evaluated, but it will give you an idea of some courses
you are likely to need to meet your degree objective. Be sure
to obtain official advising once your transcript is evaluated.
If you have difficulty with TouchTone
registration, contact the counseling
office for assistance. Difficulties may arise if all your
records are not yet on file, but provisions can be made to
allow
your registration to proceed.
Thoroughly read the Florida Community
College Catalog.
Be sure you are familiar with the deadlines printed in the Calendar
in the Catalog. Review the college policies and procedures related
to drop deadlines, withdrawal procedures and deadlines, standards
of student conduct, grading policies, standards of academic
progress, and student support services. You are responsible for
being aware of this information.
Be sure you understand your graduation
status. This will be covered during your advising session,
once your transcript has been officially evaluated. A degree
audit may also be picked up at any time from the counseling
office (Room U-110). As a transfer student, you must complete
at least 15 credits toward your degree while in residence at
Florida Community College (and, of course, meet all other Florida Community College
graduation requirements).
Check on university transfer prerequisites.
If you plan to attend a State university in Florida, a counselor
or advisor can provide you with specific information about prescribed
prerequisites for specific university majors. Some majors at
some universities are classified as “limited access” and
specific admission criteria and early application deadlines
may apply. This site does provide some university links that
may be helpful.
