The ceremony you might think of as “graduation” goes by the name “commencement.” Graduation happens as soon as you complete all the requirements necessary for your program of study.

Commencement is the actual ceremony in May, where degrees and certificates are given, or conferred. (The actual “paper” diplomas/certificates aren’t given out during the ceremony. Graduates will have already received it and candidates will receive their diplomas after the spring term ends.)

Graduation Information for Spring Term 20082 (Jan. 7, 2008–May 2, 2008)

1. Students are responsible for determining that all graduation requirements are complete and have no outstanding financial obligation to the college.
2. Students must complete requirements for the College-level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) and Information Literacy Assessment (ILAS).
3. Students must have registered for all classes that are needed to complete graduation requirements by the “Last Registration Day” of C8 session, March 9, 2008.
4. Letters were mailed during the week of March 24, 2008 to students who have been identified as “potential term graduates.”
5. To assure that students have met the academic requirements, it is highly recommended you log in to Artemis and under “My Academic History,” select “My Programs of Study/Degree Audit” and display the correct degree audit (Program Name). If the “Graduation Status Messages” states that you may not graduate, see an academic adviser for assistance.
6. Students who meet graduation requirements at the end of each term will be automatically graduated.
7. The degree message will be reflected on students’ transcripts by May 13, 2008.
8. Diplomas will be mailed to students within six weeks after the term ends.
9. The name we have on file in our system will be the name that will appear on the diploma. It will also be mailed to the address we have on file. You can — and should — check to see if your name and address are up to date by logging in to Artemis.
