Secrets to College Success
Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
Congratulations! If you’ve gotten this far, you are well on your
way to becoming a college student. You should have completed
all
of the questions on your Orientation Worksheet and submitted
it to the College site (campus/center) you plan to attend.
You must wait at least two working days after your testing session
and after submitting your Worksheet
before you come to campus for advising.
Transfer students must also bring an unofficial transcript (or
other documentation) showing their previous college coursework.
Advising for Web orientation students is provided
on a walk-in basis. The various campuses have different schedules
for this service:
If you cannot come in during these hours, a
limited number of evening appointments may be available (call
the
counseling and advising office of the campus you plan to
attend). Bring your worksheet with you if you didn’t e-mail
it. You should
plan on spending 20-60 minutes on campus, depending on how many
other students are waiting for advising.
When you get to campus, the first thing you
will do is check in at the front counter of the counseling and
advising office, telling them that you have completed the online
orientation. You will be seen on a first-come/first-served basis;
during peak periods you may have to wait for some time.
During the brief (5-10 minute) advising session,
a counselor or advisor will sit down with you and review your
program goals and placement test results. Then he or she will
provide you with a list of classes that would be suitable for
your first term. This would also be the time to ask any lingering
questions that may come up as you digest all the information
you’ve been exposed to. After you finish this session, you will
be cleared to register on or after the date for “All students” that you learned about.
