Cooperative Learning Lessons for the
ClassroomThe Cooperative Instructional strategies that follow
were created by FCCJ faculty during Foundations and Advanced
training sessions in the 1998-1999 academic year and from
2003-4.These lessons are from both liberal arts and the applied
arts. They demonstrate how learning situations can be structured
cooperatively so that students are inspired to work together
to achieve shared goals, thus maximizing each other’s
learning. These
instructional strategies highlight the professor’s
role in structuring a cooperative lesson: making pre-instructional
decisions, orchestrating the academic task, monitoring the
lesson and assessing the results Each lesson plan contains
the five basic elements of cooperative learning: Positive
interdependence, Individual accountability, Promote Interaction,
Teamwork Skills, and Group Processing. Specific Implementation
NOTES are provided when possible. For
more information about each lesson or for more lessons, or
to contribute a lesson, contact the Southeastern
Center For Cooperative Learning (SCCL) director, Sally
Nielsen.
